Global Architecture - Paris France 2017 The Madeleine Church in Paris is seen from the front, with a large row of tall stone columns and a sculpted triangular pediment above. The Latin inscription on the facade reads In the glory of the great army.

The neoclassical design looks like a Roman temple, with a deep portico, fluted Corinthian columns, strong symmetry, and heavy stone massing that became popular in the late 18th and early 19th century. The pediment is filled with relief sculptures, and the elevated steps create a formal approach from the street.

People walk near the entrance and along the fence, and several bicycles are parked in the foreground. Green tree leaves frame the upper left corner against a cloudy sky.
