Global Architecture - Grenada Spain 2021 - Alhambra Granada, Spain 2021 - Alhambra. A long reflecting pool leads the eye to a large fortified tower, with a small fountain in the foreground and a clear blue sky above.
This is a calm courtyard scene with a mirror-like pool that reflects the arcade of horseshoe arches and the massive brick and stone tower at the far end. Visitors stand and walk under the shaded colonnade, while trimmed hedges line both sides of the water channel.
The architecture shows Moorish palace design with a symmetrical courtyard plan, slender columns, rhythmic arcades, and water used as a key spatial element for cooling and reflection. The Alhambra was built mainly in the 13th?14th centuries by the Nasrid dynasty as a royal palace and fortified citadel, later adapted under Christian rule.
Architecture type or style: Moorish (Nasrid) Islamic architecture
