Global Architecture - Columbus Ohio USA 2005

The LeVeque Tower stands as a prominent skyscraper in downtown Columbus. Designed by architect C. Howard Crane and completed in 1927, it was originally known as the American Insurance Union Citadel. This Art Deco masterpiece was once the tallest building in the city and served as a beacon for pilots with its distinctive terra cotta exterior.

The building features a soaring vertical design with multiple setbacks that lead to a decorative octagonal top. The facade is covered in creamy white terra cotta tiles and decorated with intricate sculptures and gargoyles. The street level shows a busy urban scene with cars driving on a wide asphalt road under a bright blue sky with scattered white clouds.

The Art Deco style is visible through the strong vertical lines and the stylized ornamentation on the upper levels. This style was most popular during the 1920s and 1930s, emphasizing luxury and modern progress. The tower includes a complex crown with arched windows and a spire that adds to its historic silhouette.
